Scott and I met at K12 in New Orleans. Although some parts were fuzzy, it was the beginning of a long friendship and a helluva week.
Prior to K12, Scott reached out to me about an opportunity at Covestic. At that time, I was working for Kimberly Schaffer at Ciena. I’d mentioned to Kimberly that Scott and John were going to be at K12 and I was considering Scott’s opportunity. She was supportive, to a point.
Our team from Ciena showed up at K12 and I eventually connected with Scott. He interviewed me, as he has interviewed people at conferences since. We hit it off, immediately. I thought, what a great freaking guy. I still feel that way today. Needless to say, we spent a lot of time together that week, mainly on Bourbon street. I finally got to meet John, as well. Once I realized what a great bunch of guys these two were, I wanted to introduce Kimberly to them. Of course she was hesitant because they might be taking a resource from her, but she finally agreed. Ciena and Covestic had their way with Bourbon street that week. Between riding mechanical bulls, waving “Huge Ass Beers” signs, and drinking copious amounts of Hurricanes (and of course Makers), we all managed to make it back to the hotel safely.
Unfortunately, I ultimately did not make the move to Covestic at that time. Instead, I ended up taking a position with Accenture. But, Scott and I kept in touch for the next two years. The more he and I talked and the more I realized that a top 5 consulting firm is not where I wanted to be, I finally worked out a 2nd interview with Scott and a few with the consulting team. I was hired. In 2014, we once again met up at K14, which was really my first week as a Covestic employee, finally!
Choosing Covestic was the best decision I have ever made, career-wise, not just because of our awesome practice, but because I gained a friend for life. Well, I actually gained several friends. Scott has been instrumental in my growth as a person and as a consultant. I’ve spent a lot of time with my friend over the years and I can honestly say he’s one of the best people I know. I could only hope to grow up and be like him one day!
Thank you, Scott, for all of the times we’ve shared together and I’m looking forward to many more.
